Stainless Steel Pet Nail Clippers with Built-In Nail File

A scissor style stainless steel clipper with a nail file folded into the handle, sized for cats, small dogs and medium dogs. The file matters more than it sounds: a freshly cut claw has a sharp edge, and thirty seconds of filing is what stops it catching on a jumper or a sofa arm.

It is not the right tool for a large dog with thick front claws. Scissor clippers flex under that kind of load and a flexing blade crushes rather than cuts, which hurts and is exactly how a dog learns to hate nail trims. For a big dog, a heavier plier style clipper is the honest answer, and we stock one.

Two sizes. Small suits cats, kittens and toy breeds. Large suits small and medium dogs. If you are between the two, size up: a slightly oversized blade on a small claw still cuts cleanly, while an undersized blade on a thick claw does not.

Stainless steel blades, and they arrive sharp. Cut a little at a time rather than going for one confident snip, because the quick sits further down the claw than most people expect and you cannot see it on a dark nail. If you do catch it, styptic powder stops the bleeding quickly and the dog is fine. If you are not sure where the quick is on your own dog, a vet nurse will show you in two minutes at a routine appointment.
